Midreshet Shalhevet High School Announces It Will Not Be Opening Next Year Due to Financial Difficulties of Coronavirus

0

To my Beloved MSH Family,
I hope you are all doing well at this extremely difficult time for all of
us. Despite what has been virtually nonstop efforts on behalf of
Rabbi Friedman, Mrs. Lisker and our board for the past month, we
are saddened by the reality that we will not be able to open our
school in September 2020. For the past twelve years, we know
how much our students have benefited from a 4 year MSH
education and wish your daughters could have had this same
opportunity. Regretfully, we can’t make that happen. I am truly
sorry to have to give you the news at this moment.
We are forced to make this decision due to the financial impact of
the recent coronavirus situation which, in combination with several
other factors, have made it impossible for us to continue. We will
of course complete this year as scheduled. I know that you have
many questions at this time and to alleviate some of the potential
confusion, I am going to address each grade specifically.
Current Twelfth Graders
Students in our 12th grade will graduate subject to successful
completion of their exams. Due to current limitations because of
the coronavirus and guidelines from New York State, we don’t
know as yet whether graduation will be held in a physical setting
or will have to be done virtually.
Current Eleventh Graders
Students in our 11th grade have several options, among them:
1. They can opt to transfer to another school for their senior year.
There is more information about transfer applications below.
2. We are exploring the option for students to be able to graduate
by the end of August, if they enroll in Zoom classes which we will
provide in Economics, Health and English. These details will be
made available after Pesach. They will also be required to take
and pass the NYS English Regents exam. We will be providing
college and Israel guidance for any of these students. Please let
us know if you are interested in pursuing this option and
graduating early.
Current Ninth and Tenth Graders, Incoming Ninth Graders,
and Current Eleventh Graders choosing to transfer:
For students who now need to apply to another school, please
know that I have spoken with a number of the local high school
principals today including Shulamith of the Five Towns, Shulamith
of Brooklyn, Central, SKA, HANC and HAFTR and they are
prepared to receive applications from our students. Please apply
through each school’s individual website. However, Shulamith of
Brooklyn has requested that MSH students should call Ms. Randi
Sina directly at 718-916-1287 to request an application by mail.
We are already working hard in order to facilitate this process on
your behalf and will continue to do so. We will be sending out
further information in the coming days.
Again, we deeply regret having to take this course of action, but
the current situation leaves us no choice.
Follow up tomorrow, Thursday April 2, and beyond:
We understand how this news will likely affect our students and
therefore will not be running our classes tomorrow as scheduled
and instead will be hosting four Zoom sessions for our students
with our BOCES social workers to offer our students emotional
support at this time. These Zoom meetings will take place through
this link as follows:
9th grade will meet at 10 AM,
10th grade will meet at 11:30 AM,
11th grade will meet at 1 PM, and
12th grade will meet at 2:30PM.
If anyone would like to reach out to any of our social workers
tomorrow or in the coming days, they can be reached at:
Dr. Eli Shapiro- [email protected]
Estee- [email protected]
Please let us know any way we can help your family and if you
have any insights, comments or concerns that we can address.
As always, we are here for you and will continue to work with you
to ease this transition for your daughter.
We continue to be available to you; should we not be in direct
contact prior to next week, we wish you all a healthy Chag Kasher
V’Sameach.

Esther Eisenman
