“PSEG Long Island Is Prepared for High Winds”

0

Tomorrow’s weather forecast includes heavy rain and high winds, with gusts of up to 70 mph expected in eastern Suffolk County. These winds could bring down trees, branches and power lines.

As all of us continue to face the unique challenges posed by COVID-19, PSEG Long Island remains committed to providing safe, reliable electric service and a strong storm response.

Our personnel are ready to respond, but our procedures have been adapted based on new health best practices. High winds may delay some work in order to keep our crews safe. We expect that the current situation will limit the amount of support we can receive from other utilities. Power restoration could take slightly longer than usual and we thank you for your patience.

In recent weeks, we have been working closely with hospitals and other critical facilities to strengthen and enhance their electric service. Critical facilities are always the first priority when restoring power.

Safety first

The health and safety of our customers and employees is our highest priority.

  • Assume any downed wire is electrified. Stay away and report it immediately. 24/7 Electric Emergency number: 1-800-490-0075.
  • If you see a repair crew, please remain indoors. If you must speak with them, please practice social distancing and remain at least six feet away for everyone’s safety.
  • Only operate a generator outside and away from windows and vents.
  • Secure all outdoor items, particularly holiday decorations.

If you lose power

  • Report and track an outage anytime:
  • Get real-time information with the MyPower Map, in the app and online.
  • Call 1-800-490-0075 for electric emergencies, including downed wires.

Helpful tips

  • Charge mobile devices ahead of time and have car chargers ready.
  • If you lose power, unplug sensitive electronics until power is on.
  • Immediately after a storm, crews may be assessing damage and unable to provide an Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) right away. Our crews work around the clock to restore power as quickly as possible.
