Full statement from Acting Police Commissioner Phil Ragona:
In order to protect the safety of our residents, employees and first responders, effective this Thursday, July 23 access to our beaches will now close at 8:00 pm and our boardwalk at 9:00 pm. This change will be in effect daily until further notice. In addition, we are now limiting the sale of non-resident daily passes to Monday through Thursday. Non-resident daily passes will not be sold Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Additional details about these changes will be discussed during tomorrow’s 7:00 pm City Council meeting. The details will be posted on the City’s website shortly thereafter.

This comes on the heels of an incident that took place over the weekend. On Saturday at approximately 9:45 pm the Long Beach Police Department responded to Edwards Boulevard and the beachfront for a very large crowd. The officers observed approximately 700 young adults consuming alcohol, playing loud music, and engaging in disorderly conduct. With the assistance of the Nassau County Police Department, the group was dispersed. There were no reported injuries, arrests or summons issued. This incident is under investigation by the Long Beach Police Detective Division.
