MAYOR ALEX H. EDELMAN has announced that he is seeking re-election as Mayor of Lawrence, noting his commitment to no increase in taxes; the continuing and expansion of road and sidewalk repairs; his opposition to The Woodmere Club developers’ plan; his intention to utilize the Village’s decommissioned water treatment plant for 7 or 8 residential homes and a park, rather than a 150-unit apartment complex; resolving the lighting crisis on 878 and flooding conditions with the State, and forthcoming acquisition of security cameras with the County.

Also running on the Unity Ticket to fill the spot of retiring Trustee Syma Diamond, is Lawrence Civic Association President, Lawrence Yacht and Country Club Park Commissioner and NYS Assembly Woman of Distinction Awardee, PARIS POPACK, and prominent local businessman, Partner and Vice President of Harborview Capital Partners, former US House of Representatives Legislative Aide, Lawrence Civic Association member, and Street Safety Initiative founder, ELI KUTNER. Mr. Kutner is also a member of the World Zionist Congress, The National Investment Center, National Multi-Housing Council and several other prestigious national finance associations.

Both Ms. Popack and Mr. Kutner share the Mayor’s views on no tax increase, no development of the “6th Town”, Village infrastructure, and preserving Lawrence’s character rather than jeopardizing it with the introduction of 150 apartments as well as the other crucial items noted above. Paris Popack would especially focus on environmental issues, safety and security, as well as, continued rejuvenation of the Memorial Day Parade and ensuring that the Lawrence Yacht and Country Club is the “Jewel of the Neighborhood” for the entire community and residents as well as for its members.

Eliezer (Eli) Kutner pledges to spearhead the Lawrence Business Association, to enhance
and upgrade the Village’s commercial area and make it a focal point for everyone. Concerned with the quality and efficiency of the Village’s sanitary services, he would also seek to serve as the Village’s Commissioner of Sanitation in order to have an effective presence and voice in Sanitary District 1.

Running for re-election on the Unity slate is LAWRENCE VILLAGE JUSTICE GARY MANDEL.

Having served as Village Prosecutor since 1994, Justice Mandel succeeded retired Judge
Donald J. Buchalter in 2018 in presiding over local vehicular and Village Code matters.

The Lawrence Village election will be held Tuesday, September 15, 7am-9pm, and (because of Covid-19 and need for social distancing) will be held at the Lawrence Yacht and Country
Club at 101 Causeway.
