Local Shuls Alerting Congregants of Positive Cases & Uptick in the Community

23

5TC has been informed by a few Shuls and physicians that there is an uptick of positive cases within the community. As always, the purpose of sharing this information is not to create any undue hysteria, rather to inform people about what is going on in the community. Many people have ‘let their guard down’ so please be mindful to wear masks where it is required and continue to social distance wherever necessary.

We encourage everyone to contact your own physicians and Rabbonim for specific questions. Below are 3 emails that local Shuls sent out to their congregants. We took out all personal information to protect the privacy of specific Shuls and individuals involved. Those who needed to be informed for precautionary measures, have already been informed. Additionally, please check out our interview with Dr. Lightman & Rabbi Dr. Glatt involving specific COVID related questions for the upcoming school year, Yomim Tovim and more HERE.

Email #1:

I want to inform our mispallelim that a mispallel in our shul tested positive for COVID. He was only in shul on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. (He was not in shul on Shabbos.) He was in close proximity of only two people who were already notified.

Should anyone be of more concern, please feel comfortable to call me or text me at ###-###-####.

At this point, I would like to ask our mispallelim in the non-masks section only to remove their masks when they are at their seats.

Message from the Rov:

I wanted to inform the Tzibur that one of our Mispalilim, ###### ##### (son of Mr. #### and ### #####), who was in Shul this past Shabbos, recently tested positive for Covid. As per CDC guidelines the family has performed contact tracing and informed all people who had close contact with #### to quarantine. Close contact is defined by the CDC as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a sustained 15 minutes period (without a mask). Boruch Hashe-m, #### is fine, experiencing only mild cold-like symptoms.

I am in contact with several doctors including a leading national infectious disease specialist to make sure we are taking the proper precautions for the Kehilla, and remind all members to please be sure to wear a mask when entering and exiting the Shul and when you leave your seat during Davening. Masks may only be lowered when you are stationary at your seat.

If anyone has any questions please email me and I will make every effort to respond within 24 hours as I am still away with my family. If members have individual medical concerns, I encourage them to speak with their own physician.

The details in this email were sent out with permission from the ##### family.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Rosh Chodesh Elul. Have a wonderful Shabbos!

Dear Members,

Unfortunately, there has been a notable uptick in Covid-19 cases recently in our community and we would like to re-emphasize the importance of the safety procedures our Shul has implemented so that we can safely come together and daven as a Kehilla.

– Masks covering your mouth and nose must be worn at all times while in Shul
– Shacharis on Shabbos is open to associate and full members only.
– Each family may have no more than 2 guests at the Shabbos Shacharis minyan
– In unique situations such as a Simcha where members would like to bring additional guests to Shul, we ask that you – contact the Rav or a member of the board for special arrangements
– Anyone returning from a mandatory quarantine location, or who has a household member returning from such a location is asked not to come to Shul until the 14-day quarantine period is complete
– Anyone who has attended a large gathering or Simcha with positive cases, is likewise asked not to come to Shul until the 14-day quarantine is complete
– Any family with children returning from camp with a confirmed case of Covid-19 is asked not to come to Shul until the 14-day quarantine period is complete.

We join all members in hoping that we can come to Daven together safely for the Yomim Noraim. As such, we ask that all members adhere to these requirements to prevent a spike in the coming weeks.

  1. I don’t understand why the rabbonim can’t say which Shul’s are affected without naming names of the individuals it’s utterly irresponsible … if a few people are infected am sure more will follow.. this is pikuach nfesh and false modesty.. the rabbonim
    Should know better

  2. The shuls named the names because it was relevant to those shuls and their members. This article didn’t because it is not relevant.

  3. It’s relevant as some of us daven in other shuls during the week and have no idea if the shul we prayed in had a positive case. I personally had to daven in another shul this past week and I have no idea if I was exposed because the article isn’t providing the information.

  4. I havent heard of a new case in 2 months, and I get around

    Another load of MISINFORMATION

Thank you “Dr. 5 Towns Central”

  5. If you don’t test, there are no positive cases.
If you don’t report on it, it didn’t happen.
If you do report on it, it’s fake news.

Oh, and the 1000 Americans dying each DAY? A democratic hoax.

  6. Check NYS Dept of Health and NYC Dept of health. Every day they post how many positive cases there are. I can argue every comment posted here.

  7. I have no idea how a G-d fearing Jew can go to shul and daven without a mask unless he is guaranteed to be Covid free (perhaps he has recovered). Otherwise, he me have been infected and he is now putting it into the shul air and endangering his friends, all for some added comfort?? How is this acceptable religious behavior?

  8. There apparently is no problem being a G-d fearing Jew and eating at a restaurant with other diners in close proximity without wearing a mask, only with going to shul and not wearing a mask. Correct?

  9. The best thing right now is to daven at home you will be safe
As people goto weddings, come back from summer and schools open its better to keep away from the stores and shuls

  10. I still can not believe what I am reading.
Shul’s with non masks sections. The names of these Shul’s should all be punished for all to see. I am with person who non masking people in large gathers like Shul maybe not murderers per say but for sure attempted murderers.

When the next spike hits not to worry all who test positive will get the treatment that is necessary. Two wrongs never made a right.

  11. This is all a bunch if liberal hogwash.

There is no more danger here than there is with the common flue. All recent cases are mild and nobody is getting seriously ill. Either because the disease mutated, or because the hospitals stopped killing people.

In Lakewood, Wiliamsburg, Monsey, and Upstate there is absolutely zero social distancing. The only masks being worn are in Walmart. And nobody is getting sick. If there are a few new Covid cases, they are so mild that nobody knows or cares about it.

Right now, there is more danger with the flue than with Covid. Most people testing positive don’t even have any symptoms at all.

Move on with life! Turn off your radios and stop watching the news. You will all be much happier and healthier that way.

There is more danger in chasing people out of shuls than there is from Covid itself.

Nobody died in any of the camps. Nobody died in any of the colonies.

Chorona (the dangerous version) is over. Unless you are a liberal and don’t want to end it until after election.

  12. Kids in camp, schools opening, everyone shopping…

NO DEATHS anymore in our community

    Liberal hogwash is right!

The “reported” deaths (they don’t even publicize it anymore) are inflated straight up lies!

Quit the stupid masks that DO NOTHING!

  13. There are plenty of YOUNG people in our community who are 9/11 survivors, have asthma, diabetes, or other underlying conditions. The death rate for Covid is over 3 percent whereas flu is .1 percent. This disease is 10 times more contagious and much more deadly than flu. Your cavalier and nonchalant attitude is ensuring that the disease continues to spread and kill more people. It is a chilul Hashem to go around without a mask and jeopardize the health and safety of others, not to mention your very own parents and grandparents. While you yourself think you are unable to get seriously ill, I would like to remind you of the thousands of people who died who did not have any underlying conditions. There is still so much that is unknown about this virus. So you are really playing Russian Roulette with your own life. Do your part as both a Jew and a human being and wear the mask. Don’t risk your life or anyone else’s. Just because you don’t know anyone who died doesn’t mean this is a safe disease.

  14. Whenever a mask is mandated, I wear a mask. Other than that….it’s a bunch of bunk already at this point. The danger has passed.

    Get over your anxiety.

  15. New York has been able to significantly reduce the number of cases. But if we are not vigilant the numbers will spike again and there will certainly be more deaths. The danger is over only if we keep the case numbers low. The virus and deaths are raging in other states right now. Do not get complacent and lull yourself into a false sense of security.

  16. barely ANYONE is REALLY following the “rules”

    Protesters

Camps dont really need to (Im SURE you “get ” that, lol)

    and just in general….

AND NONE IN OUR COMMUNITY IS GETTING SICK

    take it easy bud
