Car Stolen From Woodmere Home & Found Trashed in Far Rockaway

0

Yesterday at around 3:30 AM, a man stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee from a driveway on Broadway by Woodmere blvd. He drove the car to Far Rockaway and left the car outside a convenience store. The owner of the store noticed an abandoned car in the lot with the engine running which led him to inform the police.

The police were able to identify the owners of the car and informed them the car was found. The car was left trashed inside, full of drugs, and items were stolen (including a wallet).

The police later informed the owner of the car that the store had cameras and the perpetrator was easily recognized. Apparently, he has been caught doing these types of activities before in the neighborhood, and they’re currently on the search for him.

In this particular instance, the keys were left in the car and the car was unlocked. We continue to urge the community to double-check at night that all cars are properly locked before going to bed. This obviously could have been easily avoided.

A bike was found (see below) on the lawn of the home in Woodmere which we assume was stolen as well. If anyone recognizes this bike, please let us know and we can make the connection.

Just yesterday 5TC informed the community that there had been several videos that were sent around from a Ring camera of a man checking cars (see photo below) in that area. We do not know at this time if this was the perpetrator, investigations are ongoing.

This man (pictured above) was caught on a Ring device at 6:15 AM Thursday morning going around Woodmere attempting to open cars. This picture was taken on Northfield Road in Woodmere.

Please remain vigilant. If you see something, say something. Anyone with any information or footage is asked to call Nassau County Police or the RNSP 24 hours hotline, 516-858-7300. Most importantly, double-check that all cars are locked at night before going to sleep.
