The southern part of Staten Island is now considered a COVID orange zone, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday, with the northern part of the borough and Upper Manhattan both receiving a yellow zone designation.
New York is also reopening an emergency COVID-19 field hospital on Staten Island as the number of infections keep climbing, the first such facility in the state to relaunch since the state partly tamed the pandemic over the summer.
Lawrence’s infection rate is currently at 4.63% over the last 7-day count. 5% is the barometer that divides the zones from yellow to orange.
Transferring from a ‘Yellow Zone’ to an ‘Orange Zone’ would drop Shul capacity from 50% to 33% (among other differences):
As previously discussed the more we continue to test all residents (not just those with symptoms) the overall positivity rate will continue to decrease.
Nassau County will continue to collaborate on testing and work with communities to ensure health and safety guidance is being followed.
We must do everything we can to save lives, keep children in school, and ensure businesses stay open.

This is nonsense. Who wants to live like this anymore.
One block away from Bayview and Lincoln about 6 houses up, last Saturday not less than 25-30 young couples with baby strollers were having a great time taking close to each other, not one person wore a mask.
Thanks to these selfish, ignorant, arrogant residents – they put everyone in the street and around them in great danger. Shame on them!
They should be fined immediately!
Moshe Heller: Nobody wants to live like this anymore! But instead of taking steps to minimize the impact until the vaccine is available, people are flaunting the rules and catching the virus right and left. Crazy.
