A major concern right now is Delta, a highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 virus strain, which was first identified in India in December. It then swept rapidly through that country and Great Britain as well. The first Delta case in the United States was diagnosed in March and it is now the dominant strain in the U.S.

Researchers have said that the Delta variant is about 50% more contagious than the Alpha variant, which was first identified in the U.K., according to The Washington Post. From what we know so far, people who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus appear to have protection against Delta.

Dov Frankel, MD, MSC, FACEP, earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Ben Gurion University and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at UAMS Medical Center in Arkansas, where he served as Chief Resident for one year. Prior to joining GBMC, Dr. Frankel worked as the Associate Chief of the Emergency Department at Sinai Hospital. He has been named as a “Top Doctor” by Baltimore magazine five times.
