Wild Footage: Major Flooding Throughout Tri-State, Multiple Highways Closed

Update: Severe flooding occurring now in NYC. No flights arriving or departing from any of the NYC metro airports due to storms & flooding – some flights being diverted to Boston Logan International Airport.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency as the remnants of Hurricane Ida batter the tri-state area.


Rainfall rates of at least 3 to 5 inches an hour in northeast New Jersey and portions of New York City are being reported, as the remnants of Hurricane Ida move through the tri-state area.

Newark Airport (EWR) reported 3.24 inches between 8 and 9pm alone, with a half an inch of rain being reported in just 6 minutes, the National Weather Service reported.

The attached videos are just a sample of extreme flooding around the NY/NJ area. In one video below an Elizabeth NJ resident can be seen completely stuck in a flooded car waiting to be rescued by kayak.
