A winter advisory is in effect for the entire NY region from 12 AM tonight till 12 PM Friday with snow accumulations of up to 6″ in NYC and its suburbs, long Island and parts of NJ including Lakewood.
Expected accumulations:
– Orange/Putnam: 2-4 inches.
– NYC/NE NJ/Rockland and Westchester: 3-5 inches.
– Long Island/Southern CT: 4-6 inches.
Snowfall rates could exceed 1 inch per hour for a period, with the best chances for locations east of NYC. This will result in snow covered roads and hazardous travel during the Friday morning commute.
A weaker and/or farther offshore low would result in lighter snow accumulations, with a stronger and/or closer to the coast track increasing the potential for greater accumulation (especially for northern and northwestern sections).
Locally higher snowfall amounts will be possible if any heavy snowbands develop.
⚠️The Tri-State’s first widespread snowfall of the season is likely to occur late tonight into the first half of Friday.
A general 3-5″ is expected, with significant disruption to tomorrow AM’s commute possible.https://t.co/i0FYVWlJzv pic.twitter.com/tljsXfPCCd
