UPDATE: NYC Mayor Eric Adams says the FDNY is investigating the cause of the deadly fire that left at least 19 dead. Says the fire appears to have started from a space heater.

FDNY Commissioner Nigro says devastating Bronx fire was caused by a malfunctioning electric space heater. When the residents of the apartment fled, the door was left open, enabling the smoke to travel through the building.


At least 19 people are dead, including nine children, after a horrific fire broke out in a Bronx apartment building Sunday morning, according to a police official, the NY Post reports.

The five-alarm blaze broke out at 333 E 181st St, a 19-story building in the West Bronx, the FDNY said. Around 200 FDNY members have responded to battle the inferno.
