PSEG Monitoring & Prepared for Nor’easter

0

PSEG Long Island is prepared for potentially strong winds, snow and heavy rain forecasted to begin today and last into Monday. Strong winds, with possible gusts of up to 70 miles per hour, could break tree limbs, pull down wires and cause outages.

Employees have performed system checks and ensured supplies are on hand. In the event of any outages, we will have additional crews ready to safely restore service, including through the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday tomorrow.

If you see repair crews, please remain indoors. If you must speak with them, please wear a mask and practice physical distancing.

Crews responding to an outage must often assess damage and determine the required resources before making repairs. Before we can provide an accurate Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) you may see a status of “Assessing Conditions”. We will provide an ETR as soon as possible and an ETR could change.

Download our mobile app to report an outage and track progress on the MyPower Map. Visit us online for storm preparedness tips.

Be prepared and stay safe:

  • Have flashlights, a portable radio and extra batteries on hand.
  • Charge mobile devices ahead of the storm and unplug any electronics that are sensitive to power surges.
  • Take time now to secure loose outdoor items that could be picked up by strong winds.
  • Please use extra caution when driving near utility crews working in the field.
  • Assume any downed wire is a live electric wire. Stay at least 30 feet away, do not drive over a downed wire and do not touch anything contacting the wire. Call us anytime to report a downed wire: 1-800-490-0075.
  • Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of slush or standing water, stop, back up and choose another path. Storm debris can hide downed wires from view.
  • Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning: Never operate a generator in an enclosed space, including an open garage, and at least 20 feet away from any building.
