Congressman Richie Torres Calls on DOJ to Investigate Surge in Anti-Semitic Attacks

US congressman Richie Torres has called on the FBI to investigate the way antisemitic crimes are being handled in New York.

In a letter to FBI director Christopher Wray, Torres said that he was concerned about the lack of prosecutions for hate crimes. He urged the FBI to look into the matter and to take action if necessary.

This comes after a surge in antisemitic attacks in New York, with many Jews feeling unsafe in their own neighborhoods. While the NYPD has stepped up patrols in Jewish areas, there has been little action taken against those responsible for the attacks. This has led to frustration and concern among many in the Jewish community.

Torres’s letter is a welcome development, and it is hoped that it will lead to greater accountability for those who commit hate crimes.

According to an article entitled “It’s Open Season on Jews” (published by Tabletmag) 18 adults have committed antisemitic hate crimes in NYC since 2018 yet only one has been convicted and imprisoned. Only one.
