Flames erupted late Saturday night in Nassau County Police Department’s 2nd precinct in Woodbury.

According to Police, a fire occurred at Nassau County Police Department’s Second Precinct, located at 7700 Jericho Turnpike. The fire began in the kitchen area and spread to two adjoining offices. The Syosset Fire Department along with several other surrounding Fire Departments responded to the scene and extinguished the flames. Arson/Bomb Squad Detectives and Fire Marshals responded to the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

Officials say the building was so badly ruined it would need to be completely gutted and a brand new police station will need to be put up in its place.

Several officers were treated for smoke inhalation, but thankfully no real injuries were reported.

Several important documents were salvaged, but all else was completely demolished in the blaze. Police say there was no interruption in their law enforcement duties, not then and not now. Work continues as usual. The 2nd precinct officers will be working out of the 8th precinct office nearby.
