Long Beach: Man Arrested For Spamming Senior For $5,500

The Fourth Squad reports a Grand Larceny arrest on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, at 3:10 pm in N. Long Beach.

According to Detectives, the male victim, 88, while inside his residence, received a telephone call from an unknown male stating that his grandson was in an accident and needed money. The caller instructed the victim to put $5500.00 US currency in a package, label it with M2125, and that a person named Richard wearing a brown hat would come to pick it up.

The Victim confirmed that his grandson was not in an accident and contacted the Police. When ‘Richard’ arrived and asked for the package, the victim handed it to him. At that time, Detectives identified themselves, and the subject began to flee the scene. As the Detectives placed the subject into custody, he began to resist being handcuffed. No injuries were reported.

Detectives arrested Defendant Larry Urtarte, 28, of Paterson New Jersey. He is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Resisting Arrest. Additionally, he was charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree and will be arraigned on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
