Be Aware of Local Car Washes Charging “Passover” Rates

17

As 5TC alerted residents in previous years, there have been reports of car wash businesses raising prices in predominantly Orthodox Jewish communities in New York City. In some cases, prices were increased as much as 50 percent for Jewish customers seeking cleaning services close to Pesach.

We are once again seeing such complaints in the 5 Towns as we have in prior years. A resident informed 5TC of a local car wash in Hewlett that attempted to charge her $180 for “Passover Cleaning”.

The following letter was submitted by a local resident:

“Good afternoon,

I just went to have my car cleaned. I normally get the “VIP” wash, which is somewhere in the $60 range. The gentleman manning the car wash entrance told me “no VIP this month, only Passover Cleaning, which is $180.”

This pricing isn’t posted, the regular VIP price is still listed as an option. And there is no “Passover pricing” listed.

I look like the typical married Jewish woman, with my hair covering and a very classic car that women with large families drive. It’s pretty easy to profile me. There were certainty other customers there that were clearly not religious Jews who were more than certainly charged the regular price for a full cleaning.

This same car wash did this last year. And purposely started this practice again exactly one month before the start of Passover.

I look forward to hearing about follow-up to this matter.

Thank you in advance for all your help.”

If anyone experiences such deliberate illegal activities please click HERE to file a complaint with Nassau County. We hope local officials help to put an immediate stop to this.

  1. Where is Bruce Blakeman, who pretends to be a friend of our community, on this issue? I contacted his office last year but never heard back! Shame on him!! Guess he doesn’t think he needs our votes.

  2. The supermarkets price gouge us year after year … charging for an inedible chazeres? The chutzpah!! They should be shut down.

  3. what about the fact that the 5 towns is zionists and believe we have the state of Israel not realizing we r in galus

  4. Anyone who goes to the car wash on a monthly basis, will certainly pay less per month because their cars are not that dirty.

The people who visit a car wash once a year for Pesach and need a full detail from all the garbage and grime that accumulated over a whole year should certainly pay a hefty fee.

It is not the same service, its 10x the work for only 3x the price. Thats actually a good deal.

  5. Why should the price of fresh fish go up? The fish does not cost more because it’s april! Squeeze every penny out of your Jewish customers. As far as our local republican leaders, shame on them for sitting in their hands ! What exactly do they do for their constituents? Not much

  6. Let me tell you a couple of three things:
    1) it’s not price gouging if it’s something you can do yourself. If you don’t like the prices take a vacuum and clean out your own car. If a restaurant opens on Pesach and charges more do people consider that price gouging?
    2) Lets be honest people who need “Passover cleanings” don’t clean their car’s at all throughout the year.
    3) Many people come to the car wash at the same time requiring a service that is very labor intensive. The business obviously has to staff the business for such an influx hence an increase in price.

  7. Reach out to kosher kleaning for car cleaning. They charge very fair prices and do a better job since they know how to lookout for chometz

  8. When the Goyim have holidays the prices go down especially for meat. When we have Jewish holidays the prices go up by a lot especially on Pesach.

  9. Why are the vaad and rabayim affiliated with the vaad silent as to price gouging before Pesach? I guess I understand p’shat of being a “nogayah b’davar”, being biased and not seeing the truth with clarity, or perhaps rather ignoring the simple truth.

  10. Similarly, our local newspapers would never carry an article about price gouging, as we know who
brings in advertising bucks to these papers.

  11. Vote Blakeman out! Shameful!! The republicans do nothing for us but show up at dinners to do a photo op and then leave with their taxpayer funded security details. Vote Desposito Blakeman Donnelly Miller Brown Canzoneri and all their cronies out.
