Woodmere Resident Jacob Steinmetz Dominant on Team Israel

Israel faced off against the Dominican Republic in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

19-year-old 5 Towns resident Jacob Steinmetz dominated his start at the World Baseball Classic! He gave up just one run and struck out three MLB all-stars Manny Machado, Jeremy Pena, and Gary Sanchez!

In the first inning, Dominican Republic’s Eloy Jiménez ripped an RBI single to left field, plating Juan Soto for the early lead. In the third inning, Manny Machado sent a moonshot to left-center field followed by an RBI double by Ketel Marte to give the Dominican Republic a 3-0 lead. In the sixth inning, D.R. would go on to score four more runs to increase the lead to 7-0. In the 8th inning, Jean Segura hit a ground-rule double to win the ballgame via mercy rule against Israel, 10-0.
