Woman Tragically Killed in Nassau Home Fire After Going Back to Rescue Dog

The Homicide Squad, along with the Arson Bomb Squad, report the details of a fire that occurred on Tuesday, May 23rd, at 3:06 a.m. in Herricks.

According to Detectives, Third Precinct Officers arrived at 252 Lafayette Street, fully engulfed in flames. Seven people made it out of the home safely and were transported to local area hospitals for evaluation due to smoke inhalation. They are listed in stable condition.

Garden City Park and Mineola Fire Departments responded and extinguished the fire. One female was found deceased inside of the home. 60-year-old Kashmira Patel returned for a beloved pet after rescuing her mother and sadly never came out.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal was on scene. The investigation is ongoing.

  1. Maybe it’s time to get rid of the amateur volunteer fire departments in every town and hire paid, professional firefighters who are physically fit to do the job.

  2. Couldn’t agree more! I’ve seen the 400 pound “firemen” from the local firehouses chugging more beer and smoking more cigs. Enough!!!
