We all remember the explosive events that took place on January 6, 2021, when the United States Capitol Building in Washington, DC was attacked. Baila Sebrow, producer and host of The Definitive Rap Show for 5Towns Central sat down with Julie Farnam to discuss her experiences as the Assistant and then Acting Director of Intelligence for the Capitol Police in the days before and after the insurrection–the warning she gave that violence was coming and Congress was the target, and the reasons she thinks it was ignored. In her position, she oversaw the identification and vetting of nearly 20,000 threats against members of Congress, most of which were made by U.S. citizens who adhered to extremist ideologies. Before joining the Capitol Police, Julie served with the Department of Homeland Security for over fifteen years.
Julie talked about what it was like being on the ground on January 6th, and what happened within the Capitol Police in the wake of the insurrection. She also claims that the Capitol Police intentionally misled Congress after January 6th, and why domestic terrorism has been on the rise.
Julie told of a small group—six people—within the Department of Defense that wrote an intelligence report that was given to Lt. Gen. Charles Flynn, the brother of President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and what happened to it. She expressed concern about violence surrounding the 2024 presidential election.
With the 2024 presidential election just around the corner, we need to look at the lessons January 6th taught us to ensure something like that never happens again.
