The Homicide Squad of Nassau County released details of a fatal vehicular accident that occurred on Tuesday, December 12th, at 7:22 pm in North Lawrence.
According to detectives, the incident took place as an unidentified female pedestrian was crossing Burnside Avenue, walking northbound at Washington Place. At that moment, she was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop, fleeing the scene immediately. The pedestrian sustained severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as Esmeralda Larios-Perez, 34, of Inwood.
In connection with the incident, the Homicide Squad has made an arrest. Melvin Deleon, 35, of Freeport, has been taken into custody. Deleon is a popular car mechanic and was used by many locals throughout the years. He was arraigned on Wednesday, January 31st, at the First District Court located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
