We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of an extraordinary woman, Lily Ebert A”H, a Holocaust survivor whose life was a testament to resilience and courage. Yihi Zichrah Baruch.

Message from the family:

“We are heartbroken to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Lily Ebert—our cherished family matriarch, Mummy, and Safta—who passed away surrounded by her loving family.

On July 9, 1944, Safta and her family were sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Her mother, younger sister, and brother were tragically murdered in the gas chambers. Amid this unimaginable loss, Safta made a promise to herself: if she survived, she would dedicate her life to sharing her story, not with anger, but with strength, dignity, and in memory of those who perished.

She fulfilled that promise with profound impact, reaching millions around the world with her message of resilience and the perils of unchecked hatred. Safta taught us all the power of tolerance, faith, and the importance of standing up against prejudice.

Safta was the heart of our large, loving family. She leaves behind a daughter and a son, remembering a daughter who predeceased her, ten grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Her remarkable legacy lives on through all of us.

Despite enduring unimaginable horrors, she rebuilt her life with unwavering faith and love, never asking “why me?” Her positivity and determination continue to inspire us through this difficult time.

As we mourn our beloved Mummy, Safta, we also celebrate her extraordinary life. The light she brought into our lives will forever shine bright, though her absence leaves an immense void. She was our hero, and we will miss her deeply.”
