Blakeman Announces Transformation of Five Towns Community Center

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has unveiled a new vision for the Five Towns Community Center, which will soon become the hub for the Nassau County Police Department’s Operation Overwatch and the Police Athletic League (PAL). This initiative will include a comprehensive overhaul of the facility, including the reconstruction of the building, field, and gymnasium, all aimed at better serving local youth and establishing a permanent police presence within the community.

Blakeman’s administration views this transformation as an essential step in enhancing both security and community engagement in the Five Towns area.

The decision comes in the wake of the closure of the beloved 5 Towns Community Center, which has served the area for over 50 years. As previously reported, the center closed its doors permanently several months ago, after Nassau County declined to renew the lease with the current operator.

This move, while a major shift for the community, highlights Blakeman’s efforts to strengthen local services and law enforcement in the Five Towns area, though some community leaders remain concerned about the lack of communication and transparency surrounding the Community Center’s closure.

You know the 5ts HAS a JCC?
They’ve had an office in Cedarhurst, on Grove by the train tracks, for DECADES. I think that might their main office, but I’m not sure, and I’m pretty sure they have other locations too.
All that said, I’m not sure how much use they really are for the community, or exactly what services\programs\events they provide.

  2. There is a 5 towns JCC, called the Gural JCC. They have tons and tons of programs.
Subscribe to their emails. They send out a weekly digest of everything they offer. I don’t think it’s like JCCRP, and doesn’t necessarily cater to the Orthodox community, or understand their needs. But it definitely has a lot to offer.
