Mayor Adams Rejects ‘Fascist’ Label for Trump, Calls for Cooler Heads Among Democrats

Mayor Eric Adams publicly disagreed with recent claims by some Democrats labeling former President Donald Trump a “fascist” comparable to Adolf Hitler. When asked about the characterization, Adams, who has previously faced political criticism himself, firmly responded, “No,” adding that he knows well what a true fascist regime entails and feels these comparisons are misplaced.

Adams urged for a more measured political dialogue, suggesting that the rhetoric on all sides be toned down, especially given the divisive climate. “I think we can all dial down the temperature,” said Adams, a moderate Democrat currently dealing with federal corruption allegations.

The comments came as Adams discussed security measures for Trump’s planned rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. During the rally, Trump addressed the federal charges against Adams, suggesting they were likely politically motivated, particularly after Adams voiced concerns about New York’s migrant crisis.

Speaking to a packed crowd of nearly 20,000, Trump said Adams “has been treated pretty badly” for being vocal on the issue, especially as New York has struggled under the weight of the migrant influx. “He said it nicely,” Trump noted, recounting Adams’ statements that managing the arrival of 100,000 migrants was not feasible. “I thought, well, he’s going to be indicted for saying that,” Trump quipped, pointing to the irony that a year later, Adams faced indictment.
