The IDF confirmed the loss of five reservists and injuries to 14 others during a firefight with Hezbollah in a southern Lebanese village. The fallen soldiers, members of the Alon Brigade’s 8207th Battalion, include:
Capt. (Res.) Rabbi Avraham Yosef Goldberg, 43, of Jerusalem, HY”D
Master Sgt. (Res.) Gilad Elmaliach, 30, of Jerusalem, HY”D
Capt. (Res.) Amit Chayut, 29, of Haifa, HY”D
Maj. (Res.) Eliav Amram Abitbol, 36, of Eitan, HY”D
Sgt. Maj. (Res.) Shaul Moyal, 47, of Karnei Shomron, HY”D
The 8207th Battalion members were all critical to the unit’s operation; Goldberg served as the battalion’s rabbi, Chayut was a platoon commander, and Abitbol held the role of deputy company commander. The violent clash also resulted in three Hezbollah casualties.
Among the 14 wounded IDF soldiers, five remain in serious condition. Additionally, the IDF has announced the passing of Staff Sgt. Malachi Yehuda Harari, 22, from Even Shmuel, HY”D, who succumbed to injuries sustained on October 18 during operations in northern Gaza with the Givati Brigade’s Rotem Battalion.
The circumstances surrounding the battle in southern Lebanon are under investigation, as the IDF continues to assess the implications of these recent events on the broader conflict.

This hits way too close to home. Gilad Elmaliach, a father and husband who lived down the street from us, and who grew up in our small neighborhood, just fell in battle in Lebanon. We'll be lining the streets holding flags as the family makes their way to the funeral.
