Historic Milestone: First-Ever Charedi Air Force Technicians Unit Completes Training

3

In a groundbreaking initiative, the IDF has launched its first-ever Israeli Air Force (IAF) technicians unit exclusively for members of the Charedi community, offering them the opportunity to serve in the military while preserving their religious lifestyle.

The unit operates from the fortified aircraft shelters of the 105th Squadron at Ramat David Airbase in northern Israel. This squadron is responsible for maintaining F-16 fighter jets, a critical component of Israel’s aerial defense.

Yesterday, a group of 26 Charedi soldiers completed their specialized training and are now certified as “Level A” technicians for F-16 aircraft. These newly qualified technicians will play a pivotal role in ensuring the operational readiness of the fighter jets and their advanced weapon systems.

This marks the first time the IDF has offered a Level A technician training course tailored for Charedi recruits. To accommodate their religious requirements, the military has implemented several modifications, including:

– Separate living quarters to uphold standards of modesty.
– Strict adherence to Kashrus (Jewish dietary laws) within the base.
– The establishment of a dedicated Shul within the hardened aircraft shelter to facilitate daily prayers and religious observance.
– The IDF describes this initiative as a “trailblazing pilot project” aimed at integrating Charedi youth into meaningful military roles while respecting their unique lifestyle. The project underscores the military’s broader commitment to diversifying its ranks and leveraging the talents of all segments of Israeli society.

As these newly trained Charedi technicians begin their service, the IDF anticipates their success will pave the way for expanded opportunities for religious soldiers in other high-tech and operational units. Chazak Ve’ematz!
