Hochul Proposes ‘Inflation Relief’ Checks for NY Families Amid Rising Costs

Governor Kathy Hochul has unveiled a proposal aimed at easing the financial burden on New Yorkers grappling with high costs of living. Under her plan, families earning less than $300,000 could receive one-time “Inflation Relief” checks of up to $500 next year.

“Costs are high, and New Yorkers are feeling the strain on their wallets,” Hochul stated. “I want to give families making less than $300,000 an Inflation Refund check for $500. No loopholes, no nonsense—just money to help pay the bills.”

The proposal, part of Hochul’s upcoming legislative agenda, requires approval from state lawmakers. If passed, individuals earning under $150,000 would receive $300, while families making up to $300,000 would get $500.

While some residents welcome the potential relief, critics have labeled the measure a political ploy. Congressman Mike Lawler accused Hochul of offering a temporary fix while burdening New Yorkers with heavy taxes and tolls. “This ‘inflation refund’ pales in comparison to the years of financial strain her policies have caused. New Yorkers need meaningful, lasting relief—not a one-time gimmick,” Lawler remarked.

The proposal sets the stage for a contentious debate in the state legislature as Hochul seeks to balance immediate assistance with long-term economic solutions.
