Latest: California Wildfires Leave Trail of Devastation as Thousands of Structures Destroyed

1

The Eaton and Palisades fires have caused unprecedented destruction in California, with officials reporting over 5,000 structures reduced to rubble. These fires are now among the most devastating in the state’s history.

Firefighters battling the flames may find temporary relief on Saturday with a forecasted decrease in winds, but strong gusts are expected to return next week, potentially fueling further fire growth.

The Palisades Fire continues to wreak havoc, tearing through homes in Mandeville Canyon and prompting evacuation orders for parts of Brentwood, Encino, Tarzana, and nearby hills. More than 12,000 structures remain at risk as the blaze advances.

Tragically, the county medical examiner has confirmed at least 13 fatalities linked to the fires, a number that authorities fear may climb as recovery efforts continue.

As of midday, the Palisades Fire had grown to approximately 22,660 acres, with containment reported at 11%. Meanwhile, the Eaton Fire, burning northeast of Los Angeles, has scorched 14,100 acres, with firefighters achieving 15% containment by early Saturday.

The scale of destruction underscores the immense challenges faced by emergency crews and the resilience of impacted communities as they endure this crisis.

According to reports, California Gov. Gavin Newsom cut $100M for fire prevention before the deadly wildfires. Newsom has violently denied the claims. LA Mayor Karen Bass called for $49M in additional cuts to the fire department just one week before the LA fires, which would have shut down 16 fire stations.
