A winter storm warning is in effect for New York City until 11 a.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service expects 3 to 5 inches of snow, mixed with sleet and ice, which could make roads slippery. Drivers are advised to be careful, slow down, and carry emergency supplies if they need to travel. The NYC Emergency Management Department is suggesting staying off the roads if possible. If you have to go out, plan for extra travel time and be cautious.
The storm could bring up to an inch of freezing rain per hour on Sunday morning, which may cause slushy roads and puddles. The city’s sanitation department is prepared to clear snow with over 700 salt spreaders and thousands of workers. Plows will start when snow reaches 2 inches.
In New Jersey, travel restrictions will be in place on major highways starting at 3 p.m. Saturday. Snow is also expected to return Tuesday through Wednesday.
SNOW is on the way, New York City!
It will start as a wintery mix this afternoon and transition to snow this evening. @NYCSanitation is preparing the roads, but avoid driving if you can. The storm should pass by tomorrow morning.

Stay safe, warm, and updated! Snow and sleet (3-5 inches) are expected tonight into Sunday, making roads potentially hazardous. My administration has already deployed 80 DPW trucks to salt and plow when necessary.
