While Eli Sharabi was held hostage, his tefillin never ceased connecting to Hashem—because Kobi Levi made sure of it, donning them every single day in his stead.
Upon Eli’s release, Kobi shared a heartfelt letter with Kan News, revealing the profound commitment he made:
“It all began with a simple Facebook post from your beloved sister. She asked if someone would take on the responsibility of wearing your tefillin daily. Without hesitation, I reached out.
Not a single day passed that I didn’t finish davening and pray for your safe return.
You’ve endured unimaginable loss—your wife, your two daughters, and your brother Yossi, all taken in the horrors of October 7th. And yet, you survived. When you stepped out of that car, your family described you as half a person. But with the love of those around you, I have no doubt you will find your way back.
Though we’ve never met, you have a place in my heart. And I know that one day, our paths will cross.
I love you, dear Eli. Brighter days are ahead—I truly believe that.”
Incredibly, After 491 days in Hamas captivity, Eli Sharabi’s first request in freedom was to put on tefillin. The Mitzvah was always connected to him throughout the horrors of captivity.
