Please note the following road closure information provided by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority – LIRR.
“Please be advised that essential road work is scheduled to take place on Rockaway Turnpike on the Far Rockaway Branch in Lawrence, beginning at 8PM on Thursday, April 17th, and continuing through 8AM on Friday, April 18th. During this time, the roadway will be closed from approximately 8:30PM to 7:30AM between Pearsall Avenue and Mulry Lane, no thru traffic will be allowed at the crossing. Folks are encouraged to use Lawrence Avenue and Washington Avenue as alternate routes.
While the work involves the use of heavy machinery and may produce noise, particularly grinding sounds from equipment cutting through rock and soil, this temporary inconvenience will result in lasting benefits for the entire community. These road cuts are a critical part of infrastructure upgrades designed to enhance the long-term safety and reliability of the grade crossings, ultimately leading to smoother traffic flow and improved infrastructure in the future!
MTAPD will be onsite to assist with the closure and ensure safety, and proper signage has already been installed for the community’s awareness.
