BILLBOARD KIDDUSH HASHEM IN 5 TOWNS
Over the past few weeks, there was an inappropriate billboard on Rockaway Turnpike on the way out of the 5 Towns. Many in the frum community were very concerned, how could such a billboard be put up right in our community?!
During the Rav’s Shabbos Hagodol Drasha, Rabbi Feiner relayed how someone- a “stam baalabas“, had approached him at a wedding and needed to tell him something. The man related that when he saw the billboard up he was so distressed that he decided he was going to get this sign down. He called up the company and asked politely that he would like this inappropriate advertisement to be removed. “We’re sorry but they paid us for the month which is up in a few days and after that time we’ll see if anybody else wants to put an ad there”. The man was determined: “How much does it cost to be on that billboard? I’ll take the next slot and the minute their month is up, I want it taken down”. The man paid $5,000 for it to be taken down and designed his own ad instead. Currently, the billboard reads “The grass is always greener on the other side; until you jump the fence and see the weeds up close.” A truly powerful story of how one person can take action for the sake of the community.
