The enforcement period ran from March 15, 2024, through March 17, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I have said many times in the past, New York will be resolute in removing impaired and reckless drivers from our roadways,&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Governor Hochul said.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cI want to thank our law enforcement officers for their continued commitment to protecting and keeping New Yorkers safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the campaign, State and local law enforcement officers utilized sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols to deter, identify and arrest impaired drivers. The statewide initiative was funded by the Governor&#8217;s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner and GTSC Chair Mark J.F. Schroeder said,\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThese mobilizations are coordinated at times of the year when we know there is a higher likelihood of individuals driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and they strengthen the ability of law enforcement to protect everyone on our roads during those periods. This is not about ruining anyone\u2019s celebration\u2014it\u2019s about making sure everyone gets home safely, and the result of these efforts clearly show why they are so important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the enforcement, law enforcement officers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state. These targeted mobilizations provide resources to law enforcement statewide to target underage drinking and increase DWI patrols and sobriety check points during the campaign period.
