In an unprecedented plea to save the yeshivos and kollelim of Eretz Yisrael, Reb Dov Landau Shlita, Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka in Bnei Brak, led a major trip to the US this week to raise much needed funds.
The devastating news came Tuesday from the Israel Supreme Court’s final ruling that yeshiva bochurim will have to be drafted or have the yeshiva funding cut off. In advance of the expected judgment, the group of Gedolim traveled around to various fundraisers to spread the word about the plight of the yeshivas and raised more than $75 million in only four days.
The Gedolim who participated included Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, Rav Yaakov Hillel, Rav Don Segal, Rav Dov Landau, the Rachmastrivker Rebbe and Rav Avraham Salim.
The events were held privately in the homes of philanthropists and were successful in quickly raising the needed funds. The rabbonim made the journey throughout cities across the US including Brooklyn, Manhattan, Monsey, the 5 Towns, Lakewood, Deal, and Toronto.
The goal was to garner donations totaling $107 million, there are mixed reports but we were informed the visit garnered upwards of $80 million in just four days.
Mi k’amcha Yisrael!
