PSA: Uber Eats Classifieds Treif Restaurants Serving Shrimp & Bacon as “Kosher”

1

Rabbi Shlomo Farhi, Rav of the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue in Manhattan, sent the following urgent letter to Uber Eats:

“Dear Uber Eats,

My name is Rabbi Shlomo Farhi. The app is listing non kosher restaurants as if they are kosher. When they are clearly not. Bacon, octopus, shrimp and the like.

This is highly offensive and actually illegal to list something as kosher when it is not. Consumers who are Jewish, Muslim, 7th day adventists, health conscious and others are relying on the kosher certification to know that they are not breaking their religions laws by eating what you claim matches their religious sensitivities.

Please ensure that there is quality control in allowing ONLY the restaurants that are truly classified as kosher to be listed in the kosher subsection AND customers have an option to report a restaurant that is misrepresenting itself.

Our next step would be to launch a campaign online and on social media drawing customer’s attention to Uber eats lack of sensitivity and illegal activity in classifying things as kosher which aren’t.

Additionally, we will be forced to report Uber Eats to the Better Business Bureau for a lack of transparency in selling products that are painted out to be one way which aren’t.

TWO CONSUMERS REACHED OUT TO ME DEVASTATED THAT THEY ATE BACON FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THEIR LIVES, BECAUSE OF UBER EATS, MISTAKING IT FOR THE FAKON OR FAKE BACON SERVED BY KOSHER STORES.”

Please be sure to share this information with friends and family!
