Senator Todd Kaminsky Gives Update on Long Beach Bridge Closures

The southbound span will NOT need to be closed down, but will rather only have one lane closed when construction commences. This means that all three lanes of the northbound span will be open, as well as two lanes on the southbound span.

In short, the necessary repairs can be made one lane at a time, so there will not be a need for a more expansive shutdown. It is unclear when this lane closure will begin, but I will keep you updated.

Fixing this bridge without turning our lives upside down is a priority, and I am glad that all levels of government – regardless of party – worked together on this. Thank you to Senator Chuck Schumer, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Legislator Denise Ford, Assemblywoman Melissa “Missy” Miller, New York State Department of Transportation and City of Long Beach, New York (OFFICIAL).

I am sure that the one-lane closure will not be fun — but neither is having a hole under our bridge. Let me know what you are experiencing and I will keep you updated as best I can.

  1. I’m sure all the 5 towns residents who have been paying the toll on the bridge for decades would love to know where all the money is going….
I mean, you would think that they must have saved up quite a slush fund by now for repairs….

  2. The money went to pay the toll takers. Pure political patronage jobs, helps out friends and their families, buys votes, etc.

  3. Which bridge are we talking about.? Pictured is the Atlantic Bach Bridge and connects atlantic beach to Lawrence. There is another bridge that is free all the way down in long Beach. Article quotes city of long Beach and not Atlantic Beach so im confused….
