Village of Lawrence Shares Update In Preparation For Isaias

0

Dear Lawrence Residents:

A tropical storm watch was issued Sunday night for Long Island by the National Weather Service as tropical storm Isaias moves up the East Coast. This event is scheduled to begin this afternoon and last through Wednesday morning.

Originally, heavy rain of 2 to 4 inches and sustained winds of 35 to 45 mph were predicted, as is a storm surge of up to 2 feet with moderate flooding in some areas. Recent westward movement is predicted to reduce the amount of rainfall as the east side of the storm passes over this area.

The Village urges you to be careful and to note the following:

In an EMERGENCY, call 911

For fire and medical emergencies only, call the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department at 516-569-4411
Avoid unnecessary outdoor activities. Falling tree limbs and other wind-blown debris can cause serious injuries or death. The safest place to weather the storm is indoors.

Remove any loose objects outside, such as lawn furniture, planters, portable BBQ’s and empty garbage cans, to a safer location or secure them.

In the event of a power outage:
Call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Emergency number 800-490-0075 or text “OUT” to PSEGLI (773454).

Report a downed wire immediately to 911 or call PSEG at 800-490-0075. Texting or emailing PSEG for downed wires only slows the response. Do NOT do so.

For downed trees or road blockages, call Village Hall at 516-239-4600 x1010 or Village Administrator Ronald Goldman at 516-551-1173.

Any downed wire should be treated as though it is a live wire. Therefore, do not approach or drive over it, or touch anything it’s contacting.

Never run gas-powered generators indoors. The exhaust fumes are toxic. Generators should only be operated outdoors in a well-ventilated area.

To avoid flood damage to cars, vehicles may be left with an accompanying note at the Lawrence LIRR Parking Lot.

We Trust you will remain safe and well as together we overcome this crisis.

Very Truly Yours,

Alex H. Edelman
Mayor
