Far Rockaway Man Arrested Yesterday Following Cedarhurst Burglary

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Far Rockaway man for an incident that occurred on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 3:38 a.m. in Cedarhurst.

According to Detectives, Fourth Precinct Officers were investigating a burglary that occurred at a Prospect Avenue residence earlier in the night. While canvassing the area, officers observed a male subject that fit the description from the burglary, riding a bicycle that was taken from the residence. Officers approached the subject as he entered the Bolla Market on Rockaway Turnpike. As officers attempted to place the subject into custody he became combative. After a brief struggle the defendant Bryan McCants, 39, of 31-02 Dwight Avenue, was taken into custody. During the struggle, an officer suffered injuries to his leg and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. A further investigation determined the defendant had four (4) outstanding warrants and was in possession of what is believed to be crack-cocaine.

The defendant Bryan McCants has been charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Burglary 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree, Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 in Mineola.
