Nassau Reps Express Opposition & Concern Regarding Proposed Inwood Project – 25 Wanser

0

Dear Residents:

While beyond Lawrence’s jurisdiction and its ability to legally control the Town of Hempstead’s development of the “Transit Hub” across the LIRR tracks along Lawrence Ave, the Village continues to monitor the situation, repeatedly expressing its concerns about increased traffic.

Toward that end, it recently communicated its distress about the impact on our shared roadways to the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency, which is considering assistance to the 25 Wanser, LLC Facility, a $100,000,000 apartment complex, and our Village was the sole representative at their most recent hearing.  In further response, I have personally met with the developers and their representatives to argue for a dramatic reduction in numbers and vehicles, and am having our staff review their traffic and environmental studies, pending further meetings.

I am pleased to report that in support of our efforts are the actions of Nassau County Legislator Howard Kopel and Lawrence Association President Jacqueline B. Handel, who have articulated their strong opposition to any project that would further compromise vehicular and pedestrian traffic and pose a threat to the area’s safety and quality of life.  Their comments are attached for your review and we will continue to keep you updated in the future.
