Cause For Thursdays Traffic: Far Rockaway Man Arrested After Crashing While DWI

The Nassau County Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Far Rockaway man for Driving While Intoxicated that occurred on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 12:21 a.m. in Woodmere.

According to Police, Fourth Precinct Police Officers received a call for a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Elm Street and Broadway. Upon arrival, Police observed a utility pole split in half and a 2018 Blue Mercedes SUV, NY registration KPZ4195, engulfed in flames with two men laying outside the vehicle. Officers immediately rendered aid to the two men and secured the scene to limit further damage of nearby homes and oncoming traffic. Subsequent to the investigation, the driver defendant Willie Bryant, 54, of 707 Beach 9th Street was observed to have glassy blood shot eyes and an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath; he suffered two broken ankles. The male passenger, 43, suffered a broken collar bone and cracked ribs; both occupants were transported to local area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. At 12:49am Officers placed Defendant Bryant under arrest without incident. Multiple fire departments assisted in putting out the car fire. No further injuries were reported.

Defendant Willie Bryant is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Assault 3rd degree and Driving a Motor Vehicle without a Proper License. He will be arraigned as soon as medically practical.
