It’s with great sadness that 5TC informs the community of the passing of HaGaon HaRav Simcha HaKohen Kook, the chief Rav of Rechovot and the historic Churva Shul in the Old City of Yerushalayim. He was niftar on Tuesday at age 92.
HaRav Kook was hospitalized for several days in Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem for a lung infection that caused difficulties in his breathing. Klal Yisrael has lost another Gadol, Yihi Zichro Baruch.

HaRav Simcha HaCohen Kook zt”l.
A giant has left us.
I had the incredible privilege of meeting Rav Kook when I learned in Israel in 1982 and my family lived in Rechovot for two years. After that, many times when he graciously hosted talmidei @Shaalvim. תנצבה pic.twitter.com/i4FJmV1DG3— Ari Waxman (@ariwaxman) May 24, 2022
