End of an Era: Shatzer Matzah Permanently Closed

11

Shatzer Matzoh, one of the most iconic and popular Matzah factories, has reportedly closed its doors and will not be reopening.

Shatzer Matzos, located at 210 Cortelyou Rd in Borough Park, serviced thousands of customers each Pesach season for decades. The factory’s owner closed up shop without intent on selling the business.

Many have raised concerns that this may increase Matzah prices again, as supply and demand will worsen matters. “Matzah is almost as expensive as gold these days! Close down a very popular and successful factory like this one, and things are going to get even more out of control”, commented Josh, a concerned Far Rockaway resident.

5TC attempted to reach out to the factory for a statement, but the lines were down, and according to Google, the shop is “permanently closed.”

Many took to Twitter to lament the factory’s closing and share their memories about Shatzer Matzoh.

  1. This is a real loss its a shame nobody could take it over to get by this pesach season . As mentioned prices will probably go up lets hope not by much .They were a great company and will be missed .

  2. They were the “” BEST!!”
THE ONLY MATZAH THAT DIDN’T KILL MY. STOMACH!
THIN & ALWAY’S DELICIOUS! I’M SO SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THIS!
THANK’S SO MUCH FOR ALL OF. YOUR. YRS. OF. PERFECTION!! YOU’LL BE. TRULY MISSED. BY. ALL!!

  3. The Jews in מצרים. Survived and so shall we .
The NY state Atty should be on the lookout for price gouging . Let’s bring back the Yonason sherif machine matzohs . Wait until u see the Belzer matzoh

  4. Price gouging is Asur. So no frum Jew would do it. Any matzah maker that engages in price gouging isn’t frum and must lose its hechsher, as do the Jewish stores that sell their products.

  5. We switched back to machine made matzah a while back. It is expensive enough being Jewish without paying unnecessarily high matzah prices.

  6. I have been buying there for more than 45 years erev pedach matzot. I don’t know where I will go. Such a great loss. I would buy the factory if I knew it was for sale.

  7. Why is e everyone so hysterical about this.

I know the Family Personally. The saddest part is, that besides the one running this bakery all the other children of the late Shatzer Rebbe, Rabbi Mayer Horowitz who owned and funded the Bakery, Where all left to starve for hunger the last 19 years since his passing, And didn’t even get one Broken Piece of Matzah. the father wanted all of them to be involved and inherited him. That includes his 2 sons who are the real hires.

And they all are denied access to see their mother and grandmother.

The saddest thing over here was that the rabbis oldest son past away 2 months ago broke, without seeing his mother the last 19 years.

I guess the Rabbi In Haven decided enough is enough and closed them down. With almost $40 a pound you should feel bad for your own pocked.

  8. @DBASHIDEAS

Really?? only Shtazer Matzos was crispy, You haven’t tried Satmar.

Wake up and smell the coffee – Hasem runs the world and Karma as his best!!! Real Loss… they should have closed down 20 years ago!!!!!!

  9. Remember going every Pessah. To buy at the factory boxes and boxes I keep my Haggadah in those empty boxes till to day and the beautiful one that my children and grandchildren made thanks for those years Myriam Nachimovsky
