The New York City Police Department has been praised for their bravery and quick-thinking actions in rescuing a horse that had fallen into the water in the Bronx. A 911 call was received about a “horse in the water” near Orchard Beach, and officials immediately responded to the scene to assess the situation. The rescue was captured on video and later posted on social media by the NYPD.

In a Twitter post on May 12th, the NYPD explained that “Today, your NYPD45Pct cops & various specialty units responded to the Bronx to safely rescue Bear, a local horse that got stuck in muddy water right near Orchard Beach.”

The team of officers used rescue equipment to secure the horse and hoist the animal out of the water. Fortunately, the horse appeared to be uninjured and could be seen in the video standing and eating grass after being rescued. It remains unclear how the horse initially became stuck.

A nearby veterinarian was expected to check the animal’s vitals on Friday. The NYPD expressed their gratitude towards their members and the community’s patrol services “for their fine and dedicated work to save this horse.” The heroic efforts of the NYPD serve as a reminder of the selfless work they do every day to protect and serve their community, even when it comes to rescuing animals in need.
