Operation Details:

The IDF and Shin Bet were working on this operation for an extended period of time, and they had been waiting until certain conditions were fulfilled.

The operation was very complex in reaching the destination in Rafah. Forces arrived at the target covertly around 1:00 in the morning, and carried out a very complex operation on a large building complex – on the second floor where the captives were held.

When forces arrived – they needed explosives to break into the building. Multiple terrorists were killed surrounding the complex. Inside the complex there was another three terrorists who were guarding the captives. The terrorists were killed and they pulled the two adult hostages (61 and 70 years old) out of the building.

A heavy shootout ensued as they were exiting the complex, the Air Force attacked from above killing many terrorists. In the operation one IDF soldier was slightly injured, beyond that – there are no casualties to our forces. IDF forces completed surrounded the hostages to shield them from any gunfire.

After that forces of the 7th Brigade with the 13th Fleet escorted the forces out on NMRs (Merkava APCs). The entire operation lasted at the destination itself for about an hour from end to end. They arrived at a nearby airstrip, and brought the abductees there and from there they took off to Sheba – where they met their families.

Local media are reporting that 100 Hamas terrorists were killed in the operation.

The IDF released footage from the rescue operation:

According to their relatives, the captives recounted their experience, revealing that they had taken on the responsibility of cooking for the family that imprisoned them. Their diet primarily consisted of pita bread and white cheese, resulting in a significant loss of body weight upon their return.

Throughout the duration of their 129-day abduction, they were deprived of exposure to sunlight. When Israeli forces intervened, they were startled from sleep and initially believed their demise was imminent assuming it was Hamas terrorists until they realized they were being rescued by Israelis, an unexpected turn of events.

Throughout their captivity, they were completely cut off from the outside world, with zero access to news except for one occasion when they managed to catch a broadcast on Al Jazeera.

PM Netanyahu meets with the soldiers who made the daring rescure B’chasdei Hashem:

Image“With the fighters who freed Luis and Fernando tonight. We are in a day of joy mixed with sadness. Joy for the release of our hostages and sadness for the fall of our warriors.

The release of Luis and Fernando is one of the most successful rescue operations in the history of the State of Israel. A few days ago they brought me the operation for approval and I approved it. I thought of three things: One, on the sanctity of the mission. Two, I thought about the risks versus the chances, and there were risks. Thirdly, I thought of you, of the warriors. I thought about what would happen at the decisive moment, because I know from experience that at the moment of the breakthrough the gap between victory and disaster is a millimeter.

At 01:40 in the morning, I see you put the luggage and seconds later I hear “the kidnapped are in our hands”. You eliminated the terrorists, you made your way back to Israel unscathed. It was a perfect operation, with perfect execution. I want to tell you: I am so proud of you, the Shin Bet, the IDF. You worked like a well-oiled machine. You are simply the best fighters out there. I came here to tell you this and to salute you on behalf of all the citizens of Israel. You are the best in the world.”

BESUROS TOVOS, MAY WE HEAR THE RELEASE OF ALL THE HOSTAGES ASAP!
