Mayor Edelman Addressing the Frustration & Urgency to Restore Normalcy

0

Please accept this brief note to acknowledge the dozens of phone calls the Village has received with reports of power outages and fallen trees. Efforts have been made to personally respond to every call and resolve the outstanding issues.

Unfortunately, as everyone understands, the downed wires, electric fires and power outages are beyond the Village’s control.

What the Village can and does do is coordinate the efforts of the Fire Department, Police Department and PSEG to work with the Village’s Highway Department and Department of Public Works who cannot remove fallen trees until there is clearance of live wires. This in part explains the delay in the Village’s response.

While residents are urged to call PSEG directly, the Village utilizes its municipal line to augment, reinforce and supervise that notification and any subsequent response. In constant touch with a government liaison, the Village continues to clear trees from roads (when safe for all parties to do so) and will organize the removal of the debris when the crisis has passed.

The Village appreciates every resident’s frustration and the urgency to restore power, and staff, as well as I, have worked through the night and continue to impress upon representatives of PSEG the need to act immediately.

We remind everyone not to cross safety barriers or enter marked off spaces for whatever reason, as everyone’s safety remains as priority.

Your patience and understanding are appreciated.

Please stay safe and continue to reach out to me at 516-239-4600 x1016 or Village Administrator Ron Goldman at 516-551-1173

Alex H. Edelman
