NCPD Details Wednesdays Oil Tanker Incident; Investigations Ongoing

The Nassau County Public Information Office reports the details of an incident that occurred in North Lawrence on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 4:08 am.

According to police, Nassau County Police Emergency Service officers responded to Burnside Avenue near Route 878 for an overturned fuel tanker truck. Upon arrival, police observed a gas tanker truck that overturned and was actively leaking fuel. The officers administered rapid and resolute measures to reduce the fuel from further leakage onto the roadway. This expeditious response from officers contained the fuel, playing a preponderant role in restoring safety to the community and mitigating environmental concerns.

Fourth Precinct officers, Motor Carrier Safety Unit, Nassau County Aviation, Nassau County Police Marine Bureau and the Nassau County Fire Marshall all responded and participated in a coordinated effort to secure the scene safely.

No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
