Tuesday 8/3: National Night Out With Local Police & Officials

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

 

County Executive Laura Curran and Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder announce that the Nassau County Police Department will be participating in the “37th Annual National Night Out” a unique crime/drug prevention event.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

 

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

National Night Out Events Scheduled for Nassau County

1st Pct. Cow Meadow Park – Freeport, 5:00-8:00 PM. Legislator Debra Mule will be participating in the event. Crime prevention and recruitment literature will be available.

Virtual Knockout Showcase – Sponsored by Legislator Kevan Abrahams this virtual event will run from 7:00 – 8:45 PM. Watch Live on Legislator Kevan M. Abrahams Facebook Live & YouTube Live. Featuring family fun, crime prevention awareness, games, prizes, etc.

1st & 3rd Pct. Veterans Memorial Park – East Meadow & Prospect Avenues, East Meadow, 6:00-9:00 PM. Hosted by Legislator Tom McKevitt, Council of East Meadow Community Organizations (CEMCO) & Crime Watch Project Director Norma Gonsalves. Event is geared toward child safety, bicycle safety and will include a candlelight vigil.

2nd Pct. Broadway Mall – Hicksville, in rear parking lot next to Police Annex, 6:00-8:00 PM. Broadway Mall and Home Depot have partnered with Legislators Arnold Drucker, Rose Walker, Laura Schaefer and Joshua Lafazan for this year’s event which features entertainment for children, family activities and giveaways. Officers will educate attendees on use of Smart 911, senior scams, and best burglary & larceny prevention tactics.

3rd Pct. Martin “Bunky” Reid Park – Broadway Ave, Westbury, 5:00-8:30 PM. This New Cassel/Westbury event starts with a parade, which will assemble at the Westbury Salvation Army, 992 Prospect Avenue at 5:00 PM and begin to march at 5:30 PM. The parade will end at the entrance to the park where a fair with entertainment and vendors will take place at 6:00 PM. Legislator Siela Bynoe and the Town of North Hempstead are participating in the event.

Kelleher Field – Williston Park, 7:00-9:00 PM. A Children’s Ride for a Safer Williston Park Parade will assemble at Broad and Amherst Streets and begin at 7:00 PM. The parade concludes at Kelleher Field where a Neighborhood Watch Block Captain’s meeting will take place at 7:30 PM followed by NNO festivities.

4th Pct. Cedarhurst Park – located at Cedarhurst and Summit Avenues, Cedarhurst, 6:00-10:00 PM. Crime prevention literature will be distributed and 4th Precinct Problem Oriented Police Officers as well as Nassau County Police Auxiliary will be present to answer questions.

Oceanside Park – located at 3800 Mahlon Brower Drive, Oceanside, 4:00-6:00 PM.

4th Pct. POP Officers will be available interact with the community and distribute crime prevention literature.

5th Pct. Chestnut Street School – located in West Hempstead, 4:00-7:00 PM. The event will be the Summer Food Distribution event held in conjunction with the West Hempstead School District Administration. Members of the 5th Pct. POP and ART Units will be in attendance to interact with the public, answer questions and hand out literature and giveaways.

6th Pct. Whitney Pond Park – 133 Valley Road, Manhasset, 4:00-8:00 PM. The event will include arts & crafts, children’s safety awareness, children’s fire safety house, ice cream truck and food vendors. Pets will be available for adoption from North Shore Animal League. Manhasset Coalition Against Substance Abuse will be present to answer any questions and crime prevention literature will be available to the public.

7th Pct. Tobay Beach – Massapequa, 5:00-8:00 PM. Held in conjunction with “Music Under the Stars” which begins at 8:00 PM. Free concert and fireworks display. Residents will have an opportunity to speak with their local precinct personnel and receive crime prevention tips prior to the start of the concert.

8th Pct. John F. Kennedy Middle School – 500 Broadway, Bethpage, 6:30-9:00 PM. Legislators Rose Walker & Laura Schaefer are sponsoring the event. Festivities include Music by Wired Up, Teddy Bear Clinic sponsored by St. Joseph Hospital, Fire Safety Trailer sponsored by Bethpage Fire Dept., Distracted Driving simulator sponsored by Bethpage Kiwanis. Crime prevention information to be distributed by 8th Pct. POP Officers.
