Temperatures took a dramatic tumble overnight as the first significant snow of the season began moving into the Tri-State area early Monday.

A rapidly-developing and dynamic storm system brought crews out treating roads across the Tri-State area as the first significant snowfall of the season hit parts of the Tri-State area.

Southern New Jersey bared the brunt of the storm with upwards of a foot in some places, including Absecon in Atlantic County which got 13 inches of snow.

Half a million customers were without power at sunrise Monday due to strong winds. State police have handled 160 accidents so far, and have come to the aid of 245 motorists.

A state of emergency was in effect in five counties: Ocean, Burlington, Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland.

Though Nassau County did not get hit by the first snow storm of the new year, the next storm potential is already on radar for Nassau. This coming Thursday into Friday has potential for Nassau to get hit by 3 – 6 inches in the latest models (snowfall to begin 3:00 AM Friday morning – 4:00 PM Friday afternoon).

A lot can change in the coming days as weather patterns continue to change, more updates to follow.
