The Highway Patrol Bureau reports the details of an auto accident that occurred on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 1:47 p.m. in Hewlett.
According to Police, Officers responded to a serious vehicular accident at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Lakeview Drive. Upon arrival, Officers encountered a yellow colored 2017 GMC box truck laying on its passenger side that had sustained major damage after striking three parked vehicles and a tree. The Nassau County Police Departments Emergency Services Unit and the Hewlett Fire Department responded to the scene.
ESU officers along with the fireman employed multiple Holmatro Rescue tools including rams, spreaders, cutters and hydraulic pumps in the extensive rescue effort to safely remove the driver.
The driver suffered severe injuries to both his legs; one leg had been stuck in the firewall of the truck. ESU officers used great care and precision to perform this extrication; the driver was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of his injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
It’s been a very tough few weeks for motorists in the 5T. Horrible traffic everywhere, catalytic converters being stolen, accidents. Better to just stay home.
