Eisenhower Park’s ‘Safety Town’ is Back & Completely Renovated

2

It’s been renovated and improved with new roads, buildings, cars, and bikes thanks to a $110,000 donation from First Net, Built with AT&T and the Nassau County Police Foundation.

For 50 years, elementary school kids from all over Nassau County have learned about traffic, pedestrian, and bike safety from Crossing Guards at Safety Town. It’s a unique and hands-on experience in the mini-village, with real bikes and kid-sized electric vehicles!

Who remembers visiting Safety Town?

  1. Safety town was the BEST school trip!! I still remember it fondly, more than 40 years ago. It was a highlight of my childhood. Nice to hear it’s back and better than ever.

  2. I am somewhat amazed that none of the news sources that I’ve researched has come up with the TOTAL history of Safety Town. Everyone is quick to give it a 50-year history starting in 1972 with crossing guards running the show. How about the years before that when actual Nassau County Police Officers were the teachers there? How do I know? because my recently passed Father, Patrolman Frank Tucker was one of the 1st officers teaching there. Unfortunately, I memory is fading a bit to the actual start date, but I know he worked there when I was in junior high school in 1970.
