The Sanitary District 1 Commissioner election took place last night. Hewlett resident Gabriel Boxers held a strong lead over Gwynette Campbell. Boxer walked away with 395 votes and Campbell trailed with 288 votes.
However, the results are unofficial at this time, as the district was served with a lawsuit to protect the integrity of the election.
Boxer thanked the community for the support and informed residents he would be taking the matter to court “to protect our lead and the integrity of this election”.

Incumbent Commissioner James Vilardi ran unopposed last night and will continue his post for another five-year term.
